Having recently won the Huws Gray Megan Cup and Betfred Trophy, narrowly missing out on adding the NWCFA Junior Cup and not to mention throwing a massive spanner in the Pentraeth/Morawelon battle for the league title, tonight’s game was never going to be easy and true to form the Tigers were ahead after only six minutes thanks to a Gareth Barker strike.

A Dave Baston brace (30 & 41) gave the hosts a 3-0 lead at the break before Tommy Lewis made it 4-0 on seventy minutes before Martin Byast pulled one back near the end for a 4-1 scoreline.

Top scorer Sion Wyn Griffiths opened the scoring in the fourth minute heading home a cross with Andrew Powell also using his head to double the lead after thirteen minutes.

Griffiths got his second after thirty four minutes when he reacted quickest to a save from visiting keeper Chris Evans to prod home.

The Reserves entertained their Llanfairpwll counterparts this evening looking to avenge two narrow defeats at their Maes Eilian ground, including a last minute blow in the Megan Cup.

Amlwch’s Sion Wyn Griffiths opened the scoring in the twelfth minute only for Llanfair’s Carwyn Hughes to equalise on the half hour.

The game looked destined for a draw until a dramatic last few minutes of the game when Dan Jones restored Amlwch’s lead with five minutes remaining, only for Llanfair to level once again two minutes later through Darren Edmunds.

With the game now into injury time, there was still time for a dramatic winner when Dan Jones fired home a free kick to make it a third successive win for the Reserves.

Amlwch’s hopes of finishing the season on a high were dealt a blow when Halkyn scored twice in sixty seconds with the game only ten minutes old. Tom Boan opened the scoring before Rob Thelwell quickly added a second.

Ian Wynn further extended the hosts’ lead shortly after the half hour mark before Amlwch’s Ricky Jones reduced the arrears with five minutes of the half remaining.

Despite Amlwch pressing for another goal it wasn’t to be and it was Halkyn’s Jason Bowden who scored the last goal of the game with ten minutes remaining to wrap up a 4-1 victory for the home side.

Amlwch travelled to Meliden this afternoon and after conceding seven goals at home against the same opposition only a few weeks earlier things got off to a bad start when a ball over the top after only six minutes found Gaz Walsh who slotted home.

With an early goal behind them, Meliden looked to emulate the previous scoreline and despite dominating possession with their free flowing football, the Amlwch rearguard defended well, especially in dealing with a succession of corners.

Ricky Jones had Amlwch’s best opportunity of the first half but was denied by a excellent save from home keeper Dan Mills.

Meliden almost got a second when Ryan McKean was drawn out of his area to tackle a striker but when the ball fell to another attacker, Shane Pell was on hand to clear the ball off the line. McKean came to the rescue again as the first half was drawing to an end when he dived to keep out James Harper’s long range effort.

Amlwch came out on the attack after the interval with Kieran Thomas firing just over and then Chris Byast seeing an effort go marginally wide. Byast came close again when he connected to a ball over the top from John Jones, forcing Mills into another save.

After surviving the early onslaught, a piece of magic from Meliden’s Darren Cassidy after fifty two minutes, saw him flick the ball over Pell before firing home into the bottom corner and make it 2-0.

Five Minutes later Gaz Walsh added his second when the ball fell to him in the area but whereas Amlwch had folded in recent weeks the determination and teamwork on show today was a vast improvement and after seventy five minutes the Blues got the goal they deserved when Chris Byast headed home to complete the day’s scoring.

Any hopes of finishing the home games in style were dashed by an impressive Penrhyndeudraeth side who have hit form of late in winning the Take Stock League Cup and securing a place in next months’s Mawddach Cup Final.

Penrhyn’s Richard Jones opened the scoring after thirty seven minutes when his header looped over home keeper McKean following a free kick from out wide.

Amlwch’s Jason Williams came closest to levelling the scores but keeper Robert Watson did well to save with his feet.

The visitor’s doubled their lead after sixty eight minutes when Carwyn Price reacted quickest to a save from McKean following another set piece to tap in and substitute Tom Owen completed the scoring to make it 3-0 with minutes remaining when a ball across the area found him in space to fire the ball into the roof of the net.
